Hello?

It's Saturday! So here is a video of Lionel Richie stalking a blind girl.

Also ridiculous is how often this song gets stuck in my head.

Burst Apart

I've given Burst Apart by The Antlers a few spins now, and I'm totally into it.

Lilia

Lilia was born last Wednesday! She has been sweet and has been sleeping mostly but it has still been a crazy week. I'll put up a few pictures when I get them back from the lab. In the meantime, check this out:

Film!

I've been slowly trying to get back into photography. I think I lost some interest in it when it seemed everyone had become a "photographer" and it just felt kind of meaningless to go out and try and do something where either a) other people who I saw as much more talented made my work seem infinitely inferior or b) other work which I saw as mediocre was being bought up like candy. Crappy candy. Like Smarties. And then I realized I was just being a pretentious douche. So I decided to pull out my cameras and starting taking pictures of whatever because it's fun and it makes me happy. There. And I just got a ton of film so it should be good time - 50 rolls of Kodak BW400CN and 50 rolls of Fuji NPZ 800 (both lots expired - awesome!), 5 rolls of Fuji Neopan 400 and 5 rolls of the new Kodak Portra. I'm excited.

I should also mention that I stumbled on some music by the Portland band Typhoon and me gusta.

Wye Oak, Allergies

I've really really been enjoying the newest Wye Oak album Civilian.

Wye Oak: Hot As Day - Civilian

Also, it's allergy season during which I am always extremely miserable. Spring has been by far my least favorite time of year. While others see budding flowers everywhere as signs of the renewal of life and beautiful and whatever and blah blah blah, I start wishing for a car accident that will put me into a coma for the next 4 months. I've tried countless over-the-counter and prescription medicines, herbal remedies and acupuncture (which I think might have worked, could I afford more than the first 3 sessions). This year I'm trying sublingual immunotherapy. I'm crossing my fingers.

Think You Can Wait

I've had this song on repeat. Like most songs by the National, it's plenty heavy (and not in the Cannibal Corpse way). As a bonus, Sharon Van Etten lends her voice on the choruses.

The Head and the Heart

I kept hearing about these guys everywhere so I decided to check them out. At first listen I wasn't too impressed, but they're growing on me.

The Head and the Heart: Heaven Go Easy On Me - The Head and the Heart

You can listen to the rest of the Fuel/Friends Chapel Sessions here.

J Mascis

Listening J Mascis' Several Shades of Why. Though it's mostly acoustic, it's still pretty intense and has guest vocals by Band of Horses' Ben Bridwell, Broken Social Scene's Kevin Drew, Kurt Vile, and the violin of Sophie Trudeau of Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

Sandwiches!

Listening to Lykke Li and thinking about sandwiches.

Lykke Li: I Know Places - Wounded Rhymes

I could really use a Bruchi's cheesesteak. Or a Jimmy John's vegetarian. I'm so hungry.

"I'm a Hairless Dog"

I wish I could hire Robin Pecknold to follow me around all the time whilst playing his otherworldly mellow folk jams.

I think a million people have posted these songs in the last couple of days since RP put them out via Twitter and Facebook, but really they're just that fantastic.
Two new songs plus a cover:

Robin Pecknold - I'm Losing Myself (featuring Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear)

Robin Pecknold - Derwentwater Stones

Robin Pecknold - Where Is My Wild Rose

Between the Moon and New York City

I've had this song stuck in my head for the last couple of days.
